Abstract:Nepal,a mountainous landlocked country in South Asia,is of abundant hydropower resources which is considered to be the great wealth from the unique natural environment.Meanwhile,due to its geographical condition located between China and India,the two of the largest markets and fastest growing economic entities in the world,Nepal shows the obvious regional advantages in its hydropower energy development and investment.However,the total existing installed capacity of hydropower stations built in Nepal only accounts for about 4.3% of the total technical potential,which is of huge investment and development space for investors.By sorting out the hydropower resource conditions and the current situation of the power system in Nepal,this article studies the development of power demand in Nepal and the possibility of external power transmission and interconnection,and analyzes the environment and risks of hydropower energy development and power market investment in Nepal in the post-COVID-19 era,as well as the revitalization of the national economy.and the preferential treatment policies related to investment in energy market,which is erpected to provide reference for the local investors in energy market to respond to the Belt and Roal Initiative and to invest in power projiects.
