The uniaxial compressive strength of rock is the key parameter for calculating the ultimate side shear resistance of rock-socketed piles. In this study, the method of calculating rock uniaxial compressive strength based on rock point load test was firstly introduced. Then, according to the fitting formula between ultimate side shear resistance factor and uniaxial compressive strength of rock, the ultimate side shear resistance factor can be calculated. As a result, the ultimate side shear resistance of piles socketed into rocks can determined by utilizing point load strength test results, which can be used in engineering practice of rock-socketed piles.
